  • 1.  Searching for a challenging position

    Posted 08-21-2019 10:33 AM

I'm a Master 2 student in "geotechnical engineering" at ECOLE des Ponts Paris in cooperation with Ecole central paris and Sorbonne University.
Currently I'm in an internship "Final year Project" with Fugro France, and I should finish in September 2019.

I'm seeking a challenging position in "geotechnical/Structural" field. What challenges do you look for in a position? How have you looked for challenging opportunities in your job search?

    Mohamad,

I think that you will find that challenges will come to you rather than the other way around. They may take many forms and can be unexpected. Hopefully you will concentrate on other issues in your job search. Look for an employer where you can gain a broad range of experience so you can use your education and experience to meet the challenges.

Mohamad- one thing I would recommend is to look for a company that has a wide variety of clients. I have worked at a firm where I was (primarily) working entirely for the same client. While I was still learning and growing in knowledge, that growth was slowed by doing similar projects repeatedly.

You up may want to look for a company that has both geotechnical and structural departments (the company I work for does) that may allow you to spend time around both types of engineering to see what you may like more.

Thanks for your comment Mr. Drew. Can you recommend some companies that you know with this criteria and if your company have this criteria what is the name of your company and how to apply?

    Regards

I work for Braun Intertec. It's the only company I know of personally that has both geo and structural departments, but I'm sure there are others. Here is a link to open positions at Braun: Workday
