    Hello Everyone,

I just want to know your opinion about the master degree in Civil Engineering for Risk Mitigation, if you have some information about this major in civil engineering activities?

    Best regards,

    Hello Rasoul,

I believe that risk mitigation is a major chapter in project management. I did my masters degree in construction management and I had a course of construction risk management and it was indeed very interesting and important area to study. I do have friends who have moved to a Ph.D. in risk analysis. The subject mainly deals with project planning and different means to handle a risk that might impact a project in a positive or a negative manner.

    Dear Rasoul,

Decision making and maintenance management with related together for technical groups in any field of industry. I have been focused in railway track and bridge structures and I think finding the optimized method for inspection and maintenance activity is important field for risk management. One of the activity in risk management is risk mitigation and it consist of several topic as follows:

    Risk mitigation strategies:
    • Risk Elimination
    • Risk Reduction
    • Risk Deflection
    • Risk Acceptance
    • Risk Deference
    • Combinatorial strategies
    • Abort the project
It is possible to make a research paper if it is interesting field for you.

Hi Rasoul. This seems like a very unique and specialized Masters Degree. Is there a University offering it? If you can provide a link that would be nice. My job focus is disaster mitigation planning and projects which is one type of risk mitigation. I wonder if you are asking about specializing in risk mitigation for your research or thesis topic. Getting a unique degree that combines civil engineering and risk mitigation would be surprising to me. Thanks,

As Brett notes, a specific MSCE degree in risk mitigation seems , if not surprising, perhaps strange, but that is due to my dated experience.
For a very highly specialized business application, it may well-be valuable, I simply am, obviously, ignorant of it.

But I wish to take this opportunity to note that in my experiences with projects and risk assessments of all types, the only cost-effective times to apply that exercise are:
    1. Prior to signing a contract to perform project work.

    2. Prior to passing the 5% complete mark of a contracted project.

In my limited experiences, such rigorous risk applications are rarely done.

As a result, projects are budgeted with profit percentages of 20 to 35%, and when done,
if  3 to 5% profits result, a celebration is held.
    Cheers,
    Bill
