  • 1.  A Child's Vision/Version of Success

    When I was younger (I'm talking waaay younger, about 10 years old,) I remember seeing people in business suits and sitting at desks (most often bankers sitting by the windows) and I thought "Wow! I want to wear a suit and have my very own desk one day."

    My 10-year-old thoughts have stuck with me and I still find the excitement in my own desk! The suit is not so common in the engineering world but I'm working up to it.


    What was your vision of success when you were younger?
    Did/does this influence you today?

    I had a very vague image of working on a large piece of machinery (cranking wrenches, if you will), but no recollection of how or where the image came to me from. I wouldn't even call it a vision of success, but rather a "vision of work". 

    It might be for the best that my ideas continued to grow out of that box in terms of gainful employment, but I will always have an appreciation for those who work with their hands and understand the "things" that they maintain or build.

    One of the reasons I decided I wanted to work within the world of H&H modeling was that even back in undergrad in 2013, I saw the value of being able to work with clients who were geographically distant from one's own location. Technology and the newfound appreciation for remote work in society seem to make that idea all the more feasible now.

    When I was that young, my attention was divided between school work, some after school activates like building with Knex and playing piano, and playing video games. To that end, my vision of success was having a lasting impact on the world around me, such as a record, or other grand achievement.

    My vision became more and more realistic ever since; I started realizing what kinds of jobs were in store for contributions to society; I started getting my degrees in my specialities; and I have experience working in offices for various bosses. To that end, I am sure I will be leaving all kinds of records behind someday, not just regarding my jobs, but regarding freelance activates, and other ways to give life meaning outside of the office.
