For civil engineers,  the Triennial is the meeting where the leaders of The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) come together to share three-year plans.  In 2018, the Triennial was held in London as part of the Global Engineering Congress celebrating the  200th birthday of the ICE and the 50th birthday for the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). The focus of the 2018 Triennial was the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals specifically how civil engineers can contribute. The Statement of Intent signed by the Presidents in London outlined how the three organizations would contribute to the SDGs over the next three years.

The 2021 Triennial will be hosted by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and will be held in Niagara Falls, Canada, May 23-25, 2021. The 2021 Triennial planning committee is exploring ways technology could  be used to enable more members of the three organizations to contribute to Triennial 2021.

Part of the meeting will be devoted to reviewing progress on the 2018 Statement of Intent and what more could and needs to be done by civil engineers during the Decade of Action to achieve the SDGs.
