    A mysterious metal object has been found at the beach in Westerly, RI.  It doesn't seem like the Army Corps of Engineers or University of Rhode Island have any idea of what it could be.  My guess is some sort of mooring that an individual may have planted.  Does anyone here have any thoughts?  I don't see it as particularly newsworthy, but it's gone international on the Daily Mail now.

    Mystery object's removal from the sands off East Beach creates more questions
    WESTERLY - The mystery endures. A crowd of nearly 100 people gathered on East Beach Thursday morning to watch as an excavator crawled into the sea to remove a strange object embedded in the sand about 6 feet out. Others, in boats, observed from the sea side.

    The object has been removed.  Folks still don't know what it is.  Any thoughts?
